Relative user value
The method
Relative user value
Users weigh the new benefits against their current solution and the cost of switching.
When to use it
- The target situation and alternatives are understood.
Ask yourself
- Will extra features make users switch?
Put it into action
- Observe how they complete the task today. List added benefits, existing benefits, and learning or migration costs before testing the new offer.
Keep these limits in mind
- This is a qualitative comparison, not a scoring formula. Finding weaknesses in alternatives does not justify deliberately damaging them.
