Deliver value on the first use
The method
Deliver value on the first use
A new user should get value before supplying a long history.
When to use it
- Personalization, recommendations, or assistants need accumulated context.
Ask yourself
- How do we handle a product that needs lots of user data?
Put it into action
- Test the first session, reduce upfront input, ask a few clear questions, and allow skipping and correction.
Keep these limits in mind
- Immediate usefulness does not justify covert data collection. Future personalization cannot excuse an empty first experience.
